Governor Bala Mohammed launching Specialist Hospital rehabilitation project
BAUCHI, Nigeria – The Bauchi State Government has begun the complete rehabilitation and upgrade of the Bauchi State Specialist Hospital in a project valued at ₦19.99bn, aimed at improving access to quality healthcare for residents.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, Governor Bala Mohammed said the project forms part of broader health sector reforms designed to modernise medical infrastructure across the state.
“This initiative is a commitment to ensuring that our people receive affordable, reliable, and modern healthcare services,” he said.
The upgrade includes new admission wards, consulting rooms, laboratories, operating theatres, seminar rooms, solar power systems, digital communication networks and modern medical equipment. Additionally, 130 residential units will be constructed for clinical and non-clinical staff.
Governor Mohammed noted that Bauchi has already revitalised more than 1,300 primary healthcare centres, ensuring at least one functional general hospital in each of the 20 local government areas.
The Emir of Bauchi, Dr. Rilwanu Sulaimanu, who attended the event, described the project as “a renewal of commitment to the health and well-being of the people,” urging contractors to maintain quality and transparency.
The contractor, Collecting Company Engineering Limited, has a one-year completion timeline.
