ANAMBRA, Nigeria – The Anambra State Police Command has dismissed a viral social media alert claiming that a military helicopter dropped suspicious objects in a forest between Nimo and Adazi-Nnukwu communities.
Police authorities said investigations found no evidence supporting the claim and assured residents that the area remained safe.
The alert, which circulated widely on social media, alleged that unidentified objects were dropped in a bush within Anaocha Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga said officers were immediately deployed to investigate the report.
“Following the report, the command immediately deployed operatives to the area for verification and assessment. So far, findings revealed that the alleged location remains calm, with no suspicious objects or any security concerns observed,” he said.
According to the police, security operatives thoroughly searched the area and found no evidence of any threat.
Residents were also observed carrying out their daily activities without disruption.
The statement quoted Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu as warning against the spread of unverified information capable of creating fear.
“The CP reiterated the command’s commitment to proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, and effective collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders in maintaining peace and security across Anambra State,” the statement said.
The police commissioner urged residents to verify security information through official channels and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
Authorities said patrols and surveillance operations would continue in the affected communities.
