ANAMBRA, Nigeria – The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four suspected cultists following a bloody clash in Nsugbe community, Anambra East Local Government Area.
The confrontation, which broke out in the early hours of Tuesday behind Nwafor Orizu College of Education, saw rival cult groups armed with cutlasses, daggers, broken bottles, and other weapons attacking one another.
Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, noting that a combined operation by police officers and local vigilante operatives led to the swift arrest of the suspects.
The arrested suspects include Oyachonam Friday (26), Akachukwu Ekwenze (23), David Chukwuma (25), and Eziolise Aloysius (23).
During the fracas, Chukwuma sustained machete cuts and is currently receiving medical treatment.
According to Ikenga, the suspects confessed to being members of the dreaded “AYES” confraternity, while others involved in the clash escaped into the bush.
“The case is under investigation, and efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing cultists,” Ikenga said.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has reassured residents that the command will remain relentless in combating cultism and violent crimes across the state.
