ABUJA, Nigeria – The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) announces that all revenue payments will move to a fully automated system from January 1, 2026, warning residents to reject cash demands from impostors.
AMAC Chairman Christopher Maikalangu made the announcement during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, stressing that the council is ending manual revenue collection to block leakages. “All payments must be made through the official Smart Tax platform,” Maikalangu says. “Any request for cash or payment into a private account should be treated as fraudulent.”
He urges residents and business owners to demand proof of Smart Tax authorisation from anyone claiming to be a revenue officer and to report offenders to the police.
Maikalangu says the council has launched a crackdown on unauthorised task forces following reports of individuals using fake uniforms and forged revenue kits.
He cautions that any demand notice issued before 2026 should be ignored, adding that payments made outside the Smart Tax system will be deemed invalid.
Market traders and small business operators, he notes, may still pay through banks or PoS operators using their Smart Tax details.
The AMAC chairman warns that defaulters face enforcement actions, including sealing of premises and possible detention. “Join the journey toward a transparent and accountable AMAC,” he says.
