CALABAR, Nigeria – Health authorities in Cross River isolate 10 individuals linked to a COVID-19 case, intensifying surveillance to prevent a potential outbreak.
State Epidemiologist Dr Inyang Ekpenyong on Thursday says the individuals are identified through contact tracing after exposure to a foreign national.
“We’ve restricted their movements to prevent possible spread,” she says.
Officials confirm the index patient is receiving treatment and responding positively.
The state government assures residents that containment measures are in place, stressing there is no cause for panic.
“We are determined to contain it,” says Health Commissioner Dr Henry Ayuk.
Authorities urge continued adherence to preventive measures, including hygiene practices and mask use where necessary.
Experts warn that global travel continues to pose risks of reintroduction of infectious diseases.
Surveillance and monitoring efforts have been intensified across the state.
