KATSINA, Nigeria – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) arrests eight suspects in connection with an attack on its outpost at Koraman Nayalli in Katsina metropolis, the command confirms.
NSCDC Public Relations Officer in the state, Buhari Hamisu, tells the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday that the attack follows a protest over a raid that leads to the death of a suspected drug peddler, Uzairu, also known as ‘Dan Kuda’. “The miscreants, in large numbers, stormed the outpost at Koraman Nayalli, Sabuwar Unguwa Quarters, and set the building ablaze,” Hamisu says.
He adds that three motorcycles and other operational items belonging to the outpost are destroyed during the incident.
According to Hamisu, the attackers, some of whom are armed, also move towards nearby NSCDC and police outposts at Filin Kanada, raising security concerns across the area.
He says the situation is brought under control through swift intervention by Special Response Squads from both the NSCDC and the Nigeria Police Force.
“Normalcy has since been restored,” Hamisu says.
The Katsina State Commandant of the NSCDC, Abbas Moriki, orders a full investigation and conducts an on-the-spot assessment of the damaged outpost. “He constitutes a seven-man committee to ensure a thorough investigation into the incident,” Hamisu adds.
Moriki warns criminals and economic saboteurs to desist from unlawful activities or face decisive action under the law.
