ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) confirms that a C-130H aircraft makes a precautionary landing in Burkina Faso after detecting an early technical warning during a ferry mission to Europe.
In a statement released Tuesday, NAF explains that the aircraft departs Lagos on December 8 en route to Portugal for scheduled training and maintenance when abnormal system indications appear shortly after take-off.
Following international aviation safety procedures, the aircraft captain diverts to Bobo-Dioulasso Airport in Burkina Faso, the nearest suitable airfield. “The decision was purely precautionary and aimed at ensuring the safety of personnel and equipment,” the statement says.
NAF confirms that all crew members are safe and that Burkinabe authorities provide full logistical and security support, including aircraft parking and accommodation.
Engineers immediately commence technical assessments to determine corrective actions before the mission resumes.
The Air Force describes the cooperation from Burkina Faso as “professional and cordial” and appreciates the support provided.
NAF reassures the public that safety remains central to its operations, particularly for long-distance military flights involving logistics and international engagements. “This incident demonstrates the professionalism and preparedness of our aircrew,” the statement adds.
The Air Force also urges the public to disregard speculation circulating online, stressing that the situation remains fully under control.
Officials confirm that plans are underway to continue the ferry mission once the aircraft is certified fit for flight.
