ABUJA, Nigeria – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered a clandestine laboratory manufacturing Colorado, a potent synthetic strain of cannabis, inside a residential apartment in Ajao Estate, Isolo, Lagos.
The operation led to the arrest of 30-year-old Stephen Kelechi Imoh, believed to be the owner and chief chemist of the illicit facility.
According to NDLEA spokesperson, Mr. Femi Babafemi in a statement on Sunday, the breakthrough followed months of intelligence gathering after officers intercepted suspicious shipments of locally-produced Colorado in March and May — indicating that production had shifted from foreign sources to domestic laboratories.
“During the Thursday, October 30 raid, officers recovered: 16.2kg of freshly processed Colorado, 1.7kg of ADB-CHMNACA Cannabinol, 4.5kg of Potassium Carbonate, and 91 litres of Dibromobutane.”
In a separate operation in Mushin, Lagos, NDLEA officers arrested 28-year-old dealer, Afeez Salisu (alias Malu), and recovered 16 compressed blocks of Ghana Loud and several bottles of Colorado weighing 16.4kg.
Also in Lagos, music artiste Godspower George (Steady Boy) was arrested in Lekki while attempting to receive 77.2kg of Loud hidden in three cartons of bathtubs shipped from New York. The syndicate’s alleged manager, Zion Osazee (alias Zee Money), remains at large.
Major seizures were also recorded across Kaduna, Ogun, Bauchi, Kwara, Edo, Ondo, Lagos (Badagry), and Taraba, involving tramadol capsules, methamphetamine, Akuskura, Loud, and over 8,000 kilograms of skunk.
Gen. Marwa commended the operatives, reiterating NDLEA’s commitment to dismantling drug networks.
“We will continue to identify and break every cartel while ensuring their assets are forfeited to the Federal Government,” he said.
