ECOWAS Startup Awards: 60 West African Firms Vie for $65,000 

ABUJA, Nigeria -Sixty start-ups from across West Africa will converge in Abuja this week for the second ECOWAS Startup Awards, with the top three winners set to receive a combined US$65,000 in seed funding.

The 10-day programme, running from September 21 to 30 at the new ECOWAS Headquarters with the theme: “Scaling West African Startups for Digital Transformation, Regional Integration and Sustainable Value Chain Ecosystem Development to drive Market Access.” will also seek to generate US$5 million in deals by connecting participating businesses with investors, business leaders, and development partners.

The start-ups will compete across six sectors, including FinTech, HealthTech, AgriTech, and Food Systems.

Other categories are EdTech and Skills Development, CleanTech, Climate and Green Innovation, and Tourism, Hospitality and Travel Tech.
