NAPTIP Rallies Nigerians to Combat Human Trafficking, Support Survivors

ABUJA, Nigeria – The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with security agencies, the judiciary, civil society organisations and international partners to dismantle human trafficking networks and protect victims.
Director-General of NAPTIP, Hajia Binta Adamu-Bello, made the pledge on Wednesday during an awareness road walk in Abuja to commemorate the 2026 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, themed “Trapped Behind the Scam.”
Also speaking, UNODC Programme Coordinator for Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants, Mrs Aishat Braimah, said this year’s campaign highlights how traffickers deceive victims with fake job offers and fraudulent promises before forcing them into exploitation and organised criminal activities.
European Union Programme Officer on Migration, Organised Crime and Drugs, Ron Hendrix, said trafficking violates human dignity and urged Nigerians to exercise caution online and on social media, where many victims are recruited. He reaffirmed the EU’s support for Nigeria’s anti-trafficking efforts through programmes implemented with UNODC and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
Stakeholders called for sustained public awareness, stronger inter-agency collaboration and increased reporting through NAPTIP’s 627 hotline to protect vulnerable persons and dismantle trafficking networks across the country.
