Governor Dapo Abiodun
ABEOKUTA, Nigeria – The Ogun State Government has secured a $250 million dairy investment from Pure Dairy Herd to establish what is expected to become Nigeria’s largest dairy farm, a project aimed at boosting local milk production, creating jobs and strengthening the country’s livestock value chain.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Bolu Owotomo, announced the investment on Friday during a community engagement meeting at the palace of the Onitoro of Itoro in Yewa South Local Government Area.
Owotomo said the large-scale dairy project, to be located in Itoro, will begin operations with about 10,000 dairy cows, significantly increasing domestic milk production and reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported dairy products.
He described the investment as a major vote of confidence in Governor Dapo Abiodun’s investor-friendly policies, noting that Ogun State continues to attract strategic investments across the agriculture sector.
According to him, the state has recently attracted major agricultural projects in Ijebu-Igbo, Obafemi Owode, Ikenne and Kajola in Ewekoro, reinforcing its position as one of Nigeria’s leading agribusiness destinations.
The commissioner also disclosed that the investors had agreed to undertake palliative repairs on roads leading to the project site to facilitate access and accelerate construction.
Responding to concerns raised by residents, Owotomo assured affected landowners that compensation would be paid in accordance with the law.
He said the compensation package would cover owners of undeveloped land as well as those with economic trees and cash crops, while the government continues legal efforts to resolve outstanding land disputes.
“This project will bring significant socio-economic benefits to the host community through employment opportunities, infrastructure development, increased commercial activities and improved livelihoods.”
