LAGOS, Nigeria – Lagos State government workers have received specialised cybersecurity training aimed at improving their ability to identify and respond to increasingly sophisticated digital threats.
The awareness programme, organised by ESET Nigeria, brought together staff from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) under the theme, “Cybersecurity in 2026: Defending Against Modern Threats in a Digital Workplace.”
The training focused on emerging risks expected to dominate the cyber landscape in 2026, including artificial intelligence-powered attacks, deepfake scams, ransomware, phishing campaigns, identity theft, cloud vulnerabilities and supply chain breaches.
Officials say the initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen cyber resilience across public institutions as government services continue to migrate online.
Speaking during the programme in Alausa, Ikeja, Deputy Director at the Lagos State Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr Kadri Shamusideen, emphasised the importance of continuous cybersecurity education.
“While technology provides the necessary security controls, our employees remain the first line of defence against cyber threats. Continuous education and awareness are therefore essential in ensuring that staff can identify emerging threats and respond appropriately,” he said.
Shamusideen noted that cyber awareness is becoming increasingly critical as government operations become more digitised and interconnected.
Experts at the training warned that cybercriminals are increasingly leveraging artificial intelligence tools to create more convincing attacks capable of bypassing traditional security measures.
Participants were also taught practical strategies for protecting sensitive government information, recognising suspicious online activities and responding effectively to cyber incidents.
Industry analysts believe human error remains one of the leading causes of successful cyberattacks, making staff awareness programmes a crucial component of organisational security.
The programme underscores Lagos State’s commitment to safeguarding public digital infrastructure amid a rapidly evolving cyber threat environment.
