ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government has concluded plans to distribute Information and Communication Technology equipment to 15 Federal and State Colleges of Education across Nigeria under a major education support initiative funded by the Government of Japan.
The handover ceremony is scheduled for June 2, 2026, in Abuja under “The Project for Capacity-building of Teachers to Promote Continuous and Inclusive Access to Safe and Quality Education for Girls in West Africa.”
According to the ministry on Friday, the initiative represents a strategic investment in Nigeria’s education system by equipping teacher training institutions with modern digital tools to improve teaching quality and learning outcomes.
The project is funded by the Government of Japan and implemented in collaboration with the African Union International Centre for the Education of Girls and Women in Africa and the African Union Education, Science, Technology and Innovation team in Addis Ababa.
The ministry says the programme addresses critical educational challenges across West Africa, including low school enrolment, gender inequality, learning poverty, teacher shortages and the growing number of out-of-school children.
As part of the intervention, beneficiary institutions will receive 65 laptops, 71 tablets, five interactive smart boards, 19 all-in-one desktop computers, projectors, printers and backup hard drives.
Institutions selected for the intervention include Federal College of Education, Zaria, Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, College of Education, Zuba and Enugu State College of Education (Technical) among others.
It also announces additional education-focused interventions targeting female teachers in crisis areas and accelerated learning programmes designed to reintegrate out-of-school children into formal education.
“The project is expected to significantly improve the educational landscape for girls by increasing the number of qualified teachers, promoting ICT in education and improving learning outcomes,” the statement says.
