DAMATURU, Nigeria – The Yobe food security projects have received a major boost after the State Executive Council approved ₦73.3 billion for agriculture, infrastructure, housing and empowerment programmes aimed at improving livelihoods, strengthening public health and accelerating economic development.
The approvals were granted on Thursday during the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Mai Mala Buni in Damaturu.
The council approved more than ₦28.53 billion for the procurement of agricultural tools and equipment under the state’s 2026 Mega Agricultural Empowerment Programme, a move expected to increase food production, improve nutrition and support thousands of farmers.
It also approved ₦460.83 million to procure 1,780 bags of 50kg beans, alongside cooking oil, smokeless stoves, cooking utensils and kitchen equipment for distribution to women entrepreneurs to enhance household food security and economic empowerment.
“The State Executive Council today approved the sum of ₦73.3 billion for the execution of various projects and the provision of services that will directly improve the lives and livelihoods of our people across the state,” the council says.
The Executive Council further approves ₦4.94 billion for the construction of the Buni-Yadi Modern Motor Park and Grains Market, ₦5.69 billion for external infrastructure at the Damaturu Modern Motor Park and ₦3.95 billion for a shopping mall and mini-market in Buni-Gari.
Other approvals include ₦652.63 million for the acquisition of Fanzar Mixed Farms Limited, ₦1.18 billion for the construction of the Ministry of Housing headquarters and ₦2.25 billion for the purchase of 208 housing units from the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
Road infrastructure also receives significant funding, with ₦23.97 billion approved for the rehabilitation of the 45-kilometre Kalallawa–Kaliyari Road and the construction of the seven-kilometre Damagum–Gubana Road to improve connectivity and facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce.
“The rehabilitation of the Kalallawa-Kaliyari Road and completion of the Damagum-Gubana Road will improve connectivity, facilitate trade and enhance access to rural communities,” the council says.
The Executive Council also approves ₦364.48 million for the procurement of 1,000 Yamaha GX390 grinding machines for empowerment programmes and endorses a Public-Private Partnership to redevelop the Yobe State Liaison Office in Kaduna into a modern hotel under a Build-Operate-and-Transfer arrangement.
