JIGAWA, Nigeria – The Jigawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (JSPHCDA), in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO), destroys 5,520 cartons of expired noodles in Dutse to avert potential public health risks.
The destruction exercise, carried out in the state capital, follows strict safety and regulatory protocols and is jointly supervised by officials of the WHO alongside relevant security and environmental agencies.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the JSPHCDA explains that the noodles were originally supplied by the WHO as incentives for the National Immunisation Plus Days (NIPDs), designed to encourage participation in polio and routine immunisation campaigns across the state.
Speaking at the destruction site, the State Cold Chain Officer, Yusuf Inuwa, says the immunisation exercise was initially scheduled for November 2025 but was later postponed.
“The National Primary Health Care Development Agency directed that the exercise be shifted to December 2, 2025. Unfortunately, the noodles reached their ‘Best Before’ date on the same day,” Inuwa says.
He explains that the postponement necessitated the immediate retrieval of the items from all 27 local government areas of Jigawa State to prevent accidental distribution to the public.
“In line with established safety standards, we retrieved all 5,520 cartons and ensured their destruction to avoid any health hazards,” he adds.
