Minister of Finance, Wale Edun
LAGOS, Nigeria – Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has silenced mounting rumours about his health after making a calm and confident public appearance in London on Wednesday.
Amid speculation that the minister had suffered a stroke and was paralysed, Edun was spotted attending the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair at Somerset House, United Kingdom, appearing composed and cheerful.
In a video shared on Instagram by O’DA Art Gallery, Edun, dressed in a dark coat and scarf, admired several pieces from African artists Simon Ojeaga, Paul Majek, and Afeez Onakoya.
“It was a pleasure to welcome the Honourable Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, to our booth,” the gallery captioned. “He showed great appreciation for African art and artists.”
His presence reassured Nigerians following reports that he was on doctor-mandated rest in Abuja and unable to attend the World Bank–IMF meetings in New York, which the Central Bank Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, led in his stead.
The 1-54 Art Fair, now in its 12th edition, continues to showcase Africa’s creative excellence, drawing global curators, investors, and policymakers.
