ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government has clarified that Nigerians applying for international passports during the ongoing special passport intervention exercise in the United Kingdom will not pay any additional fees beyond the approved charges.
Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the clarification in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser, Alao Babatunde.
According to the minister, the intervention was introduced to provide additional opportunities for Nigerians in the UK to process passport applications amid increased demand.
Tunji-Ojo stressed that applicants would only pay the officially approved passport fees of US$150 for five-year validity passports and US$230 for 10-year validity passports, excluding applicable bank charges.
“Neither the Ministry of Interior nor the Nigeria Immigration Service has introduced any other charges outside the approved fees,” he said.
The minister explained that the intervention was designed to address challenges previously experienced by Nigerians seeking passport services in the UK.
He disclosed that discussions were ongoing with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to resolve operational bottlenecks and improve service delivery.
Tunji-Ojo reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to providing efficient consular services for Nigerians both at home and abroad.
