OGUN, Nigeria – The Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) has arrested a woman captured in a viral video dumping refuse into a drainage channel in Sagamu during rainfall.
The arrest was carried out in collaboration with Environmental Health Officers of Sagamu Local Government following the circulation of the video on social media.
In the footage, the woman was seen carrying a yellow sack filled with refuse before emptying its contents into the drainage.
She appeared unbothered despite being confronted while the incident was being recorded.
Confirming the development in a post on X on Tuesday, OGWAMA said the suspect had been apprehended.
“The Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), in collaboration with the Environmental Health Officers of Sagamu Local Government, has apprehended the lady captured in a viral video dumping waste into a drainage channel in Sagamu,” the agency said.
The authority warned residents against indiscriminate waste disposal, noting that blocked drainage channels contribute to flooding, environmental pollution and public health risks.
OGWAMA urged households and businesses to patronise only waste collection operators accredited by the agency for proper disposal of refuse.
“A cleaner Ogun State is a shared responsibility,” the agency added.
