KADUNA, Nigeria – Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have foiled a suspected terrorist attack in Kaduna State, recovering an AK-47 rifle and 13 rounds of ammunition during an operation in Kachia Local Government Area.
The operation was conducted between September 23 and 24, 2026, according to a statement issued on Saturday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North-West, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja. Danja said troops of Sector 1 acted on intelligence about the movement of suspected terrorists through bushes around Rijana in Kachia LGA.
The troops reportedly mobilised to the area, laid an ambush and engaged the suspects after sighting them.
Following the encounter, troops conducted a follow-up search of the area and recovered an AK-47 rifle and a magazine containing 13 rounds of ammunition. They also recovered a magazine carrier, a military jungle hat and other items, according to the military.
In a separate operation on the same day, troops conducted a clearance operation in Awom village, also in Kachia LGA, to prevent terrorists and other criminal elements from using the community as a safe haven.
Danja said the operation led to the arrest of a suspected criminal identified as Jacob, who was allegedly found with a locally fabricated pistol and seven rounds of ammunition.
The suspect remained in military custody and was assisting investigators, the statement said.
The JTF North-West command commended the troops for what it described as their vigilance and prompt response. “The troops remain resolute in sustaining offensive and clearance operations to thwart terrorist activities, deny criminal elements freedom of action and protect communities within the Joint Operations Area,” Danja said.
The latest operation forms part of ongoing military efforts to disrupt terrorist and criminal activity in Kaduna and other parts of the North-West.
