President, Bola Tinubu
ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu intensifies calls for state police and effective local government autonomy, describing both as essential to addressing Nigeria’s worsening security challenges.
Speaking at the APC National Caucus meeting, on Thursday Tinubu says decentralised policing “must happen,” revealing assurances given to US and European partners on passing a state police bill.
“I told them we will pass state police to improve security,” he says. “I have a party that will make it happen.”
The President also urges governors to stop withholding council funds, insisting that autonomy is meaningless without direct financing, in line with the Supreme Court judgment.
