President Bola Tinubu
KANO, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to visit Kebbi State on Wednesday to console the government and assure families of kidnapped schoolgirls that the Federal Government is committed to securing their safe return.
The directive was disclosed in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
The President also sent condolences to the Nigerian military following the death of senior officers, including Brigadier General Musa Uba, who was killed in an anti-insurgency operation in Borno State.
Tinubu described the abduction of the schoolgirls as distressing, especially after intelligence reports indicated a possible attack. He commended Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris for efforts taken to prevent the incident but expressed sadness that the attackers still succeeded.
“I am depressed that heartless terrorists have disrupted the education of innocent schoolgirls. I have directed security agencies to act swiftly and bring the girls back to Kebbi State,” he said.
He called on communities—particularly those living in high-risk areas—to share intelligence that could help security forces prevent further attacks. “Our security forces cannot succeed if citizens fail to cooperate,” he added.
The President also mourned fallen soldiers, praying for comfort for their families. “As Commander-in-Chief, I am deeply pained by the tragic loss of our officers on active duty,” he said.
