President, Bola Tinubu
LAGOS, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has approved a sweeping reshuffle of Nigeria’s Service Chiefs, a move analysts describe as essential to revitalising the nation’s security architecture.
According to a statement by the Special Adviser on Media, Sunday Dare, General Olufemi Oluyede becomes Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa. Other appointments include Major-General W. Shaibu as Army Chief, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Air Chief, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Naval Chief. Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his role as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
“The President appreciates the outgoing chiefs for their service,” Dare said. “He expects the new leadership to enhance professionalism, vigilance, and unity within the Armed Forces.”
Security analyst Rufai Kareem described the changes as “a necessary reset,” urging the military to adopt “an intelligence-driven approach over reactive strategies.”
He added that synergy among the services and trust with communities remain critical to countering insurgency, kidnapping, and oil theft.
The appointments, effective immediately, signal Tinubu’s renewed commitment to tackling insecurity and restoring public confidence.
