President Bola Tinubu
ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu orders an immediate manhunt for terrorists responsible for coordinated attacks on communities in Niger State that leave more than 40 people dead and several others abducted.
In a statement personally signed on Sunday, the President directed the Minister of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, Inspector-General of Police and Director-General of the Department of State Services to track down the perpetrators of the Kasuwan Daji attack.
“These terrorists have tested the resolve of our country and its people. They must face the full consequences of their criminal actions,” Tinubu says.
He also orders the immediate rescue of all abducted victims and directs security agencies to intensify operations around vulnerable communities, particularly those near forests.
The attacks occurred on Saturday afternoon in Agwara and Borgu local government areas, with police saying gunmen invaded Kasuwan Daji around 4:30 p.m., killing residents, burning the market and looting food supplies.
Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun says the attackers operate for hours due to the remoteness of the area before security forces are deployed. “A joint security team has visited the scene, and efforts are ongoing to rescue the abducted victims,” Abiodun says.
While police put the death toll at over 30, community leaders and residents report higher casualties.
The Director of Communications of the Catholic Diocese of Kontagora, Reverend Father Stephen Kabirat, says at least 40 people are killed, adding that a parish priest narrowly escapes abduction days earlier.
Tinubu calls for national unity, urging Nigerians to stand together against terrorism and reclaim peace for affected communities.
