President Bola Tinubu
ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has reassured families of abducted children that the Federal Government is intensifying rescue efforts and strengthening school security across Nigeria.
In a Wednesday statement marking the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, Tinubu describes Nigerian children as the nation’s future and says every child deserves safety, education, healthcare and equal opportunities.
The President expresses concern over children and teachers reportedly held captive by criminal groups in parts of Oyo and Borno states.
“Many families cannot fully celebrate because of the pain of separation and uncertainty,” Tinubu says.
He insists the government has not abandoned victims or their families and says security agencies have been directed to intensify intelligence-driven rescue operations.
Tinubu also announces plans to strengthen security around schools located in high-risk communities through improved vulnerability assessments, emergency response systems and stronger collaboration between security agencies and state authorities.
He directs the Federal Ministry of Education and state governments to reinforce the Safe Schools initiative in vulnerable communities nationwide.
According to the President, children rescued from abduction or displacement will receive rehabilitation support, including medical care, counselling, education assistance and reintegration services.
Tinubu calls on parents, teachers, traditional rulers, transport unions, vigilante groups and the media to support efforts aimed at protecting children.
“Community vigilance remains vital in preventing attacks and kidnappings,” he says.
The President further pledges continued investment in education, healthcare, nutrition, digital skills development and social welfare programmes to secure a safer future for Nigerian children.
He urges children across the country to remain hopeful, assuring them that their safety and dreams remain important to the government.
