TETFund Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) begins developing a national security master plan to protect Nigerian campuses from banditry, kidnapping and cyber threats.
The initiative was unveiled on Tuesday at a two-day national workshop on campus security in Abuja, attended by vice-chancellors, security chiefs, ICT experts and law enforcement representatives.
TETFund Board of Trustees Chairman, Aminu Bello Masari, describes the effort as a turning point. “This is a foundational step towards a comprehensive and forward-looking campus security framework,” Masari says.
The master plan aims to standardise threat prevention, intelligence sharing, rapid response and protection of critical infrastructure across public tertiary institutions.
TETFund Executive Secretary, Arc Sunny Echono, highlights campus vulnerabilities, attributing them to porous boundaries and dense student populations. “Campuses must have structured communication with security agencies and rehearsed emergency response protocols,” Echono says.
Participants discuss intelligence gathering, crisis management, risk mapping and business continuity planning, drawing lessons from past security incidents.
Officials say the final document will guide future investments and restore confidence among students, staff and parents nationwide. TETFund Launches Security Master Plan for Nigerian Campuses
