Tech-U Receives N1.3bn TETFund Staff Office Complex to Address Infrastructure Gap

IBADAN, Nigeria – The Abiola Ajimobi Technical University (Tech-U), Ibadan, has taken delivery of a ₦1.3 billion staff office complex constructed through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) intervention to improve office accommodation for academic staff.
The facility was formally handed over to the university during a ceremony attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Adesola Ajayi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Caleb Aborisade, Registrar Mrs. Omolola Olanrewaju, university officials, consultants and contractors.
The new building comprises 10 professorial offices with research assistants’ spaces, 10 en-suite professorial offices and 14 offices for senior lecturers, providing modern workspaces for teaching and research.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Ajayi described the project as a major milestone in the institution’s infrastructure development, noting that inadequate office accommodation had remained one of the university’s biggest challenges since its establishment.
He explained that securing approval for the project was particularly significant because TETFund had previously directed universities benefiting from its interventions for more than five years to prioritise maintenance of existing facilities rather than new construction.
According to the vice-chancellor, Tech-U successfully obtained approval to deploy its ₦1.3 billion TETFund intervention towards constructing the office complex, making it one of the few universities granted such approval.
“The university has identified staff office accommodation as one of its most pressing needs. Several spaces previously being used as offices were not originally designed for that purpose,” Ajayi said.
He expressed optimism that the institution would continue to secure additional TETFund interventions to address other critical infrastructure needs.
Ajayi also appealed to the contractor to support the university through corporate social responsibility by assisting with the connection of the new building to electricity.
He commended the consultant, APD Associates, the contractor, Kadex Express Limited, and the university’s maintenance team for ensuring the successful completion of the project.
