SOKOTO, Nigeria – The International Committee of the Red Cross and the Nigerian Red Cross Society have donated essential medicines and medical supplies to three primary healthcare centres in Sokoto State to improve access to healthcare services.
The beneficiary facilities are Kofar Kade Primary Health Centre, Farfaru Primary Health Centre and Mabera Primary Health Centre.
The supplies were handed over Friday during a ceremony attended by health officials, community leaders and humanitarian workers.
ICRC representatives said the intervention forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen primary healthcare delivery.
“This support is only the beginning of continuous assistance,” the organisation said.
Officials urged health managers to maintain accountability and ensure that all medicines reach intended beneficiaries.
“We encourage you to carefully verify that every item received corresponds with the waybill,” the organisation stated.
Branch Secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross Society in Sokoto, Shehu Ibrahim Dange, called on healthcare workers to use the medicines responsibly.
“These medicines are completely free. No patient should be asked to pay,” he said.
Dange said the intervention was designed to ease the financial burden on vulnerable households and improve access to essential healthcare.
Humanitarian organisations continue to support healthcare delivery in vulnerable communities across northern Nigeria through medicine donations, equipment and health interventions.
The Nigerian Red Cross Society reaffirmed its commitment to community health and humanitarian service.
