SOKOTO, Nigeria – The Sokoto State Government, Ahmed Aliyu has suspended the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Larai Tambuwal, in what officials describe as a leadership change within the state’s health sector.
Her suspension was conveyed in an October 2 letter signed by Permanent Secretary Ibrahim Dingyadi on behalf of the Commissioner for Health.
“Dr. Bilyaminu Sifawa will take over her office with immediate effect as Acting Executive Secretary of the agency,” the letter stated. The correspondence, addressed to the Special Adviser on the agency, also attached the governor’s approval for perusal and implementation.
Although no reason was provided for Tambuwal’s suspension, the development represents a significant leadership transition in the state’s primary health care system.
The State Primary Health Care Development Agency is central to strengthening health systems, particularly in rural communities, and expanding access to essential services for Sokoto residents.
Observers note that the change in leadership could carry far-reaching implications for ongoing programmes and reforms within the state’s health sector.
