Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye
ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria’s drug regulatory agency is calling for greater national investment in women and children’s health, warning that sustainable development depends on the wellbeing of vulnerable populations.
The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, makes the appeal during the agency’s International Women’s Day 2026 celebration in Abuja.
Addressing staff and stakeholders at the event themed “Give to Gain,” Adeyeye stresses that stronger healthcare support for mothers and children is critical for national progress.
“Investing in the well-being of women and children should be an integral part of national development,” she says.
Adeyeye highlights the agency’s Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Initiative, launched in November 2025, as a key programme designed to improve health outcomes for vulnerable Nigerians.
The initiative forms part of NAFDAC’s broader effort to strengthen public health protection while supporting government policies aimed at reducing maternal and child mortality.
She also praises the contributions of women working within the regulatory agency, describing them as essential to its mission of protecting lives.
In her welcome remarks, Mrs Joan Agbaagu, Head of NAFDAC’s Reforms Unit, says the theme underscores the importance of collective dedication and selfless service.
“Improving the health of mothers and children remains central to our mission as a public health institution,” she says.
The event celebrates the role of women within the agency while reinforcing NAFDAC’s commitment to policies that support stronger healthcare systems and national development.
