Justice of the Supreme Court, Kayode Oyewole
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday confirms Justice Joseph Olubunmi Kayode Oyewole as a Justice of the Supreme Court, following standard vetting procedures.
Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters Chairman, Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, presented the panel’s report, recommending confirmation. The chamber approved the nomination, elevating the Court of Appeal Justice to the nation’s highest court.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio had earlier read President Bola Tinubu’s request for confirmation during plenary. In his communication, the President states, “Pursuant to Section 231(2) of the 1999 Constitution, I present for Senate confirmation the appointment of Hon. Justice Oyewole Kayode as Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.”
Following the committee’s scrutiny and Senate vote, Justice Oyewole officially became the newest member of the Supreme Court, which serves as Nigeria’s final appellate authority.
Senator Adegbonmire described the confirmation process as thorough, ensuring that the nominee meets the high standards expected for the judiciary’s apex institution.
