LAGOS, Nigeria – The wife of Lagos State Governor, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has launched the Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign, urging parents and guardians to immunise all eligible children.
The campaign was flagged off on Thursday after an awareness walk from Alausa Secretariat to Allen Roundabout, Ikeja. Dr. Sanwo-Olu stressed the government’s commitment to eliminating preventable diseases through free, safe, and accessible vaccines.
“This initiative reflects the governor’s passion for child health and the government’s resolve to protect our children,” she said.
The programme targets children aged between nine months and 14 years.
According to Dr. Sanwo-Olu, two doses of the vaccine can provide up to 85 per cent immunity against measles and rubella. She assured that the vaccines would be available at all government health facilities and schools in Lagos from January 2026.
“While mild reactions such as fever or rash may occur, serious side effects are extremely rare. The benefits far outweigh any discomfort,” she added.
The initiative is implemented under the Governor’s Spouses Forum Initiative with support from the Centre for Well-being and Integrated Nutrition Solutions. “This is about collective action to safeguard our future.”
