PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria – The Rivers State Government, in partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has launched a new integrated vehicle tracking and data-sharing system aimed at reducing car theft and improving public safety across the state.
The initiative, announced on Saturday by the Ministry of Transportation, introduces a digital monitoring framework that enables real-time verification of vehicle ownership and faster coordination among security agencies.
The system will support quicker recovery of stolen vehicles, improved traffic intelligence, and enhanced crime prevention.
According to the ministry, the collaboration “strengthens inter-agency response capacity and ensures more efficient sharing of critical data between law enforcement units.” The government said the new platform is expected to curb the rising trend of vehicle-related crimes and restore residents’ confidence in public road safety.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara, speaking at the ceremony, said the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to build a safer transportation environment.
“This partnership deepens intelligence-sharing and operational cooperation among security agencies,” he said. “Public safety is a core priority of this administration, and we are taking concrete steps to protect citizens and their property.”
During the launch, FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed decorated Governor Fubara as a Patron of the Special Marshals, acknowledging the governor’s support for road safety reforms.
Mohammed praised the governor’s “unwavering commitment to accountability and responsible governance.”
