ABUJA, Nigeria – The Police Service Commission (PSC) warns prospective Nigeria Police Force applicants against recruitment scams, vowing to prosecute cyber cafés and agents extorting money under false enlistment claims.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the commission says it receives “disturbing reports” of applicants being charged illegal fees — sometimes exceeding ₦15,000 — by intermediaries who falsely claim the money is shared with the PSC and other government agencies.
“The Commission wishes to state clearly that recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force is absolutely free,” the PSC says. “At no stage of the recruitment process is any applicant required to pay money.”
Applicants are advised to avoid third-party handlers and submit applications personally through the official recruitment portal, npfapplication.psc.gov.ng. “Applicants are strongly advised to apply on their own and refrain from engaging cyber cafés or recruitment agents,” the statement adds.
The PSC warns that anyone found extorting applicants “under any guise whatsoever” will face prosecution in accordance with the law.
Victims and members of the public are urged to report illegal demands to the nearest police station or contact the commission directly via 07054992071 (SMS or WhatsApp only).
The commission reiterates its commitment to a transparent, merit-based recruitment process, assuring Nigerians that safeguards are in place to prevent manipulation.
The PSC calls on applicants to remain vigilant, noting that personal application through the official portal remains the only legitimate route into the Nigeria Police Force.
