Protesters gather at PSC headquarters in Abuja demanding probe of AIG Aina
ABUJA, Nigeria – Tension rose in Abuja on Wednesday as protesters stormed the Police Service Commission (PSC) headquarters, demanding a probe into alleged bribery and abuse of office by Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Emmanuel Aina.
The protesters, under the banner of the Centre for Human Rights and Advocacy in Africa Network (CHRAAN), accused the senior police officer of corruption and urged the Commission to act swiftly.
Chanting solidarity songs and carrying placards, the demonstrators called for transparency and accountability within the Nigeria Police Force.
Reacting to the protest, the PSC in a Thursday statement pledged to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the allegations to ensure fairness and justice.
“The Commission has launched a whistleblowing policy and calls on Nigerians to freely report cases of official corruption within its operations or institutions under its oversight,” said Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, PSC.
He assured the public that the Commission remains committed to promoting integrity and discipline in the Force.
The PSC’s response comes amid rising public scrutiny of police officers accused of misconduct and renewed demands for institutional reforms to rebuild public trust in law enforcement.
