Police Arrest Abuja Doctors, Others Over Alleged Kidney Harvesting Syndicate in Nasarawa

NASARAWA, Nigeria – The Nigeria Police Force has arrested two Abuja-based medical doctors and two other suspects over their alleged involvement in a kidney harvesting and human trafficking syndicate operating in Nasarawa State.
The suspects were identified as Emmanuel Ode, 23; Dr Benjamin Oyime, 48; Dr Daniel Otukpa, 53; and David Idoko, 25.
According to the police, Dr Oyime is a consultant nephrologist at Wellington Hospital, Life Camp, Abuja, while Dr Otukpa is also a nephrologist and serves as the hospital’s Acting Director of Clinical Services. Ode is a resident of Auta Balifi in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed in a statement on Friday that operatives of the Special Tactical Squad (STS) arrested the suspects during a sting operation conducted on August 19, 2026, in Auta Balifi.
According to the police, preliminary investigations indicate that Ode allegedly recruited financially vulnerable young people by luring them with false promises before introducing them to the alleged organ trafficking network.
Investigators alleged that on April 24, 2026, Ode took a 22-year-old man, identified as Samuel Ezekiel, to Wellington Hospital in Abuja, where his kidney was allegedly removed.
Police said the victim reportedly received $1,250—about ₦1.7 million at the prevailing exchange rate—for the procedure.
The police also said another alleged victim told investigators he was recruited by the same suspect in 2022 and underwent a similar procedure, receiving ₦7 million.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to protecting vulnerable Nigerians and ensuring that all persons connected to criminal networks are brought to justice,” the statement said.
