ENUGU, Nigeria – Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has commissioned a multi-billion-naira pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in the state, with the government considering a commercial partnership to supply medicines to public health facilities.

The facility, Anchorage Pharmaceutical Industries Limited, is located in Trans-Ekulu, Enugu. It is expected to support local drug manufacturing, create employment opportunities and strengthen the supply of medicines for healthcare delivery.

Mbah commissioned the plant on Thursday, describing the investment as an opportunity to advance public health, economic growth and skills development in the state.

He congratulated the company’s founder, board and management for establishing the manufacturing enterprise, saying it could create jobs, provide internship opportunities and support the transfer of technical skills to young people.

The governor also disclosed that his administration would explore a commercial arrangement with the company to supply medicines to the state’s central medical stores and primary healthcare facilities. “We are interested in made-in-Enugu, and that’s what you’re doing here,” Mbah said, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to working with private-sector investors.

Mbah said the state government was constructing 260 Type-2 primary healthcare centres, which would require a reliable supply of essential medicines to operate effectively.
