AKURE, Nigeria – The Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State has arrested a suspect over the alleged killing of an 18-year-old teenager in Owo, following a violent altercation.
Police identify the suspect as Johnson Daniel, accused of stabbing Ariyo Amos Timilehin during an argument on March 6, 2026.
State police spokesperson DSP Abayomi Jimoh confirms the arrest in a statement issued in Akure on friday.
“The command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the alleged murder of Ariyo Amos Timilehin following a violent altercation in Owo,” Jimoh says.
According to the police, the victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.
Detectives later visited the crime scene and recovered the knife suspected to have been used in the attack, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
Jimoh says the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation.
“The command commiserates with the family of the deceased and urges members of the public to avoid violence in resolving disputes,” he adds.
Local sources say the victim and the suspect were close friends frequently seen together in their neighbourhood, making the incident particularly shocking to residents.
Police say investigations are ongoing and the suspect will face prosecution upon completion of the inquiry.
