ONDO, Nigeria – Ondo State is set to vaccinate 2.2 million children against measles and rubella in a sweeping public health campaign scheduled for 20–29 January 2026, officials announce. The 10-day immunisation drive will cover all 18 local government areas, targeting children aged nine months to 14 years.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ondo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Francis Akanbiemu, disclosed the plan during a media briefing on Thursday, saying the operation demonstrates government commitment to preventing vaccine-preventable diseases. Represented by the Director of Disease Control and Immunisation, Victor Adefesoye, he emphasised that the vaccine is safe, effective, and administered via injection.
“We assure parents that this vaccine poses no health risks whatsoever,” Mr Akanbiemu said. “Our teams have mapped community-specific challenges to ensure smooth and efficient implementation across the state.”
He warned against sabotage, noting that Nigerian law “provides clear sanctions for any individuals or groups attempting to obstruct this life-saving exercise.”
