Okapi Children Cancer Foundation founder Kemi Adekanye presenting donation cheques to Abuja hospitals for childhood cancer treatment
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Okapi Children Cancer Foundation (OkapiCCF) has donated ₦39.5 million to three major hospitals in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to enhance access to quality healthcare for underprivileged children battling cancer.
Founder of OkapiCCF, Ms. Kemi Adekanye, announced this during the foundation’s 2025/2026 presentation held in Abuja on Thursday, where cheques were handed over to National Hospital, Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, and University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH).
Adekanye explained that the funds will cover medical treatment, chemotherapy, radiology, and related care. She said 70 per cent of the funds will directly finance children’s treatment, while the remaining 30 per cent will support education scholarships, psychological care, and parent empowerment initiatives.
“Cancer treatment is expensive. Without financial help, many children risk abandoning care,” she said.
She highlighted the foundation’s growing fundraising record — from ₦765,000 in 2017 to ₦39.5 million plus $820 and €20 in 2025 — describing the milestone as a testament to public trust and compassion.
Representatives of the beneficiary hospitals, including Dr. Ifeoma Ezeukwu of FMC Jabi and Dr. Uduak Offiong of UATH, thanked the foundation for easing families’ financial and emotional burdens.
Grateful parents, including Mrs. Linda Joseph, mother of a leukemia survivor, shared stories of recovery, underscoring the foundation’s life-saving impact.
The event also featured awards of recognition to partners and volunteers who contributed to the fundraising success.
