OGUN, Nigeria – Dapo Abiodun announces a statewide electricity audit aimed at improving energy efficiency, curbing theft and strengthening power supply across Ogun State.
The governor unveils the plan on Wednesday during an inspection of the four-megawatt gas-fired Independent Power Plant in Abeokuta.
“We need to know exactly how much power we consume and how energy is distributed,” Abiodun says.
The audit follows Ogun’s expanded authority to generate, transmit and distribute electricity under recent reforms.
Abiodun describes reliable power as essential to industrialisation and investment growth.
“Electricity is a major driver of economic development,” he states, adding that stable supply would support businesses and attract investors.
The governor says the Ogun State Light-Up Project and the 34-megawatt Onijanganjangan plant are designed for future expansion.
Authorities also confirm that the newly established Ogun State Electricity Regulatory Commission will oversee the sector.
“Our goal is to build a sustainable power sector that positions Ogun as a leading industrial hub,” Abiodun adds.
Officials say the audit will help identify distribution leakages and improve operational efficiency statewide.
