OGUN, Nigeria – The Ogun State Government says reconstruction and dualisation work on the 5.3-kilometre Iperu–Ilishan Road has reached its final stage, with asphalt laying now in progress.
In a statement posted on its official X handle on Monday, the government confirms that engineers have commenced binder and wearing course asphalt works after completing earthworks, drainage construction and stone-base layers.
“The project has progressed beyond major civil works, with active asphalt laying now ongoing, marking a key milestone,” the statement says.
The government describes the road as a strategic transport corridor linking Iperu to Ilishan while providing vital access to the Gateway International Airport and the Sagamu–Benin Expressway.
It adds that major drainage systems and stabilised base courses are already completed, ensuring durability and resilience of the road infrastructure.
According to the government, the completed project will improve traffic flow, enhance safety, cut travel time and stimulate economic activities for surrounding communities and airport-bound commuters.
Officials link the road upgrade to Ogun’s broader infrastructure agenda, noting that alongside the Sagamu–Sapade Road, it will significantly improve access to the Gateway International Airport.
The government reaffirms its commitment to delivering “high-quality, durable roads built to top engineering standards” across the state.
