ABUJA, Nigeria – The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has urged corps members and personnel to renew their commitment to national unity, service and the values that bind Nigerians together.
The Director-General made the call in an Independence Day message issued on Thursday as Nigeria marked its 66th anniversary. “As we celebrate our nation’s journey and achievements, let us renew our commitment to unity, service, and the ideals that bind us together as one people,” he said.
The message urged members of the NYSC community to see their responsibilities as part of the wider effort to strengthen national cohesion and contribute to Nigeria’s development.
The NYSC was established to promote national integration by deploying young Nigerian graduates across states other than their states of origin for a period of national service.
The Director-General encouraged corps members and personnel to uphold the values of service and responsibility as they participate in the scheme’s activities across the country.
The Independence Day message comes as Nigerians mark 66 years of independence and reflect on the country’s development, challenges and responsibilities for the future.
