UYO, Nigeria – Nigeria’s National Orientation Agency, (NOA), on Friday urged citizens to treat climate forecasts as essential planning tools, warning that ignoring weather predictions could worsen floods, heatwaves and food insecurity.
Akwa Ibom State Director, National Orientation Agency, Mkpoutom Mkpoutom, calls on Nigerians to consult the 2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction released by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency.
“By understanding what the weather holds for 2026, farmers can plan planting, communities can prepare for floods, and governments can allocate resources effectively,” he says.
The agency pledges to translate forecasts into major local languages through community mobilisation officers, aiming to bridge the gap between science and everyday decision-making as climate volatility intensifies.
