KATSINA, Nigeria – The National Orientation Agency (NOA) launches a security sensitisation campaign across Katsina State’s border communities to curb cross-border crimes and strengthen grassroots vigilance against insecurity.
The campaign begins on Monday in Jibia Local Government Area, targeting border councils including Jibia, Kaita, Mashi, Mai’adua, Zango and Baure, which authorities identify as vulnerable entry points for criminal activities.
Speaking at the launch, Katsina State NOA Director Alhaji Muntari Lawal-Tsagem says criminals often exploit festive periods to infiltrate Nigeria through illegal routes. “Drug traffickers, arms smugglers and other criminal elements take advantage of porous borders during festivities,” Lawal-Tsagem says.
He urges residents to support security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious movements, stressing that early intelligence remains critical to preventing attacks.
The NOA director also calls on parents and guardians to protect youths from drug abuse and criminal influence, warning that social neglect fuels insecurity. “Security is a collective responsibility. Patriotism and law-abiding behaviour are essential to keeping our communities safe,” he adds.
Lawal-Tsagem appeals to traditional and religious leaders to promote peaceful coexistence and mutual respect, while commending Governor Dikko Radda for prioritising security reforms across the state.
Officials say the campaign aims to build trust between citizens and security agencies and strengthen community resilience along Katsina’s international borders.
