ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday said it will begin nationwide enforcement of tinted glass permits on Thursday, Oct. 2, ending speculation that the deadline might be extended.
Force spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin told Africa Health Report (AHR) in an interview that motorists without permits should either park their vehicles at home or face impoundment and prosecution.
“We have postponed the enforcement several times to allow motorists to sort out their challenges. Those who were serious had enough time to comply. As it is now, we are not going back. Enforcement begins tomorrow, October 2, and there is nothing I can do about it,” Hundeyin said.
The Police said vehicles with tinted windows but lacking valid permits will be seized as part of efforts to strengthen road safety and national security.
Security analysts say tinted glass enforcement is aimed at curbing crimes, as unauthorised tinted vehicles can obscure the identity of occupants.
Hundeyin stressed that motorists have had months of grace to regularise their permits and warned against further disregard of the law.
The Police had earlier shifted enforcement deadlines due to permit processing delays, but officials now insist there will be no further postponements.
With enforcement beginning Thursday, tighter road checks are expected across major cities, and motorists have been urged to obtain valid tinted permits immediately.
