ABUJA, Nigeria — The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across several parts of the country from Sunday to Tuesday, warning residents to take precautions against strong winds and heavy downpours.
In its latest weather outlook released on Sunday, NiMet predicted thunderstorms over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Kaduna, Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Kano and Katsina in the North, while Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi and the Federal Capital Territory are expected to experience moderate rainfall during the forecast period.
The agency also forecast widespread rainfall across the southern states, including Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta and Edo, with thunderstorms expected to intensify later in the day on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
NiMet advised residents to secure loose objects as strong winds could precede the thunderstorms, urging the public to exercise caution during outdoor activities and monitor weather updates for possible changes in conditions.
The agency said the weather pattern is expected to persist through Tuesday, with cloudy skies, scattered thunderstorms and moderate rainfall affecting most parts of the country.
