Delegates at Nigeria-Hungary water cooperation meeting
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian Hungarian Water Forum has opened in Abuja, marking a renewed commitment between both nations to strengthen cooperation in water resources management, technology transfer and sustainable service delivery.
In a statement shared on Tuesday, the Federal Ministry of Water Resources described the forum as a platform for technical collaboration aimed at addressing persistent gaps in water supply infrastructure and access.
“The Nigerian Hungarian Water Forum provides a structured platform for bilateral technical exchange and shared solutions to water management challenges,” the ministry stated.
The event will highlight Hungarian engineering and water technology models, with a focus on their applicability in Nigeria’s urban and rural water systems. Delegates will also review opportunities to improve groundwater development, surface water treatment, flood control and irrigation systems.
Discussions are expected to lead to the renewal or signing of institutional cooperation agreements, including Memoranda of Understanding between technical agencies.
Officials said the forum’s outcomes will support national goals to expand potable water access and reduce reliance on ageing infrastructure.
Hungary has previously supported Nigeria in areas of water treatment equipment and capacity development, while Nigeria continues to seek affordable, scalable solutions suited to its diverse climate zones.
