President Bola Tinubu
ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has approved the creation of a National Health Technology and Data Analytics Office to coordinate Nigeria’s digital health transformation and strengthen the use of health data nationwide.
The Presidency said the new office will serve as the central platform for implementing Nigeria’s digital health agenda and improving coordination across the healthcare sector.
The announcement was made on Friday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
President Tinubu also appointed the Director-General of the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development, Dr Obi Adigwe, as the first National Coordinator of the office.
The office will operate under the supervision of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare.
According to the Presidency, the new structure will support collaboration among government agencies, private sector organisations and development partners while preserving the statutory roles of existing institutions.
Officials said the office would also help implement the National Digital Health Architecture approved by the National Council on Health in November 2025.
The Presidency stated that the initiative aims to build a secure, connected and data-driven healthcare system capable of improving health outcomes.
The office will be guided by a steering committee co-chaired by Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare Professor Muhammad Ali Pate and Nigerian Economic Summit Group Chairman Olaniyi Yusuf.
Analysts say the move represents one of Nigeria’s most ambitious efforts to modernise healthcare administration through technology, data management and digital innovation.
