LAGOS, Nigeria – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has warned nightclub owners and partygoers that hosting or attending events centred on illicit substance use remains a criminal offence under Nigerian law.
The caution follows a weekend raid at Proxy Night Club, Victoria Island, Lagos, where more than 100 people were detained. The club’s owner, socialite Mike “Pretty Mike” Nwogu, and manager Joachin Millary, remain in custody.
NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi said on Tuesday that operatives acted after undercover surveillance confirmed a planned “drug party.”
“Any gathering designed for consuming or distributing illicit substances is criminal,” Babafemi stated. “These parties fuel drug abuse and aid recruitment into addiction.”
The agency recovered 384.882kg of Canadian Loud and other drugs from the club’s store.
Babafemi warned that property owners who allow similar activities risk prosecution. “The law is clear, and enforcement will be firm,” he said.
