LAGOS, Nigeria – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) dismantles a Lagos drug syndicate that disguises Canadian Loud cannabis as imported Christmas snacks.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi confirmed on Sunday that two suspects, Deji Adesanya and Olubiyi Majekodunmi, were arrested on 22 November during a raid in Ikate, Lekki.
“The suspects imported colourful designer sachets branded as cookies and snacks and used them to package cannabis for retail distribution through a WhatsApp channel,” Babafemi says. Officers recover 5kg of Canadian Loud and large quantities of packaging material.
In a separate operation on 27 November, suspected kingpin Philip Ucheka was arrested in Mushin while receiving 110 pouches of Canadian Loud weighing 55.6kg.
Across multiple states, NDLEA seizes major drug consignments: 3,077kg of skunk in Ondo, 649kg in Kogi, and 243.5kg at Seme border, among others. Officers also intercept 725 rounds of ammunition hidden in maize on the Abuja–Kaduna highway and 400 rounds at the Abuja–Kaduna tollgate.
Babafemi says the intensified crackdown reflects nationwide efforts under the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign.
“NDLEA commands nationwide have intensified WADA sensitisation activities across schools, worship centres, ports and communities,” he notes.
The operations signal the agency’s sustained push to disrupt drug networks and prevent illicit substances from circulating across Nigeria.
